Good Small Farms is a 100 acre, mixed, regenerative farm 1.5 miles from Stroud, Gloucestershire. As well as a market garden, other projects include mixed agroforestry containing fruit and nuts, a tree nursery, a mixed beef herd, 140 chickens and an AirBnB.
They launched the veg bag scheme in 2022 which continues to go from strength to strength. With almost all the produce coming from the farm, they really showcase how the movement into local, seasonal and regenerative food production can be executed brilliantly.
Not only do they grow incredible fruit and veg, but customers are able to include meat boxes as well as free range eggs. The feedback they get from their customers is fantastic and they’ve now carved out an integral position in their community.
For others wanting to set up a similar business they recommend going and learning from other people. There’s no right way to run a box scheme but other farmers will have lots of tips. They’ll also tell you what mistakes they’ve made so you can learn from them.
If you set up one or more pick-up points at someone else’s business they also advise make sure you have a few contacts you can reach out to if something goes wrong. This will give you peace of mind!
